Should I Write A Life Story Book?
Why Writing a Memoir is Important, Even If You Don’t Think You Have Anything to Say
By Jamilia F.
I’ve never been one for talking about myself. I don’t like being in front of people, and honestly, I can’t even remember doing anything "significant." I’m a single woman with no kids, and sometimes it feels like my life wouldn’t really make for much of a story. But lately, I’ve been realizing how important it is to capture my life—my prayers, my decisions, and the way I’ve lived for Christ.
Writing a memoir isn’t about boasting or showcasing an impressive list of accomplishments. It’s about remembering and documenting the quiet, sometimes hidden moments where God has shown up. It’s about sharing my walk with Him, my prayers, and the faith decisions that have shaped my journey. Even if no one else reads it, writing my story helps me reflect on what God has done, and maybe, someday, it will encourage someone else.
Documenting Prayers: A Testimony of God’s Faithfulness One thing I’ve learned is the power of documenting my prayers. Writing down what I’m asking God for, or just pouring out my thoughts to Him on paper, helps me remember how He’s been faithful. Sometimes it takes months or even years to see those prayers answered, but looking back shows me how God was working, even in ways I couldn’t see at the time.
Writing a memoir, then, becomes a way of keeping track of that faithfulness. It reminds me of the quiet “yeses,” the hard “nos,” and the moments when I just had to trust Him. Maybe my life won’t look grand in the world’s eyes, but God’s work in me is powerful, and I want to capture that.
Decisions, Big and Small, Are Part of the Story We all make decisions daily, some that feel monumental and others that seem ordinary. But when I write these down, I can see a pattern of how God is guiding me.
Even the little decisions—a job change, a move, a new friendship—are part of the story He’s writing in my life. I want to remember those moments of choosing faith over fear, or joy over doubt, because that’s where growth happens. Writing them down reminds me that every choice I make, when led by God, has purpose.
A Life Lived for Christ Has Value Beyond Measure Some days, I might feel like my life isn’t all that interesting. But that’s just not true. A life lived for Christ—whether it’s one that looks “quiet” or “extraordinary”—is worth remembering.
I’m reminded that even though I may not have children or a big family to pass stories on to, I’m part of God’s family, and that gives my life meaning. I want to capture the way I’ve seen His love and grace at work, so I can remember it and maybe even share it with someone else who needs encouragement.
Encouraging the Next Generation My story, even though it feels simple, has value. When I write about my experiences with God, it becomes part of a larger story—one that might uplift someone who feels alone, or who wonders if they’re seen. My prayer is that even if I don’t have a big audience, my words might touch one life, or be a reminder to myself when times are tough.
So, if you’re like me, wondering if your life has something worth sharing, remember this: every prayer, every decision, every quiet moment you’ve walked with Christ is a story of His love. Writing it down matters—not because you need to impress anyone, but because He has been faithful, and your life has value in His hands.
